St Stephen Waldbrook, City of London

Throughout the City of London, there are numerous small churches, but for me, nothing pulls a punch so much as St Stephen Waldbrook.

Rebuilt by Christopher Wren after the Great Fire of 1666, it is widely believed that the central dome was the model for St Paul's Cathedral, just down the road.

Once you enter, you are struck by the spaciousness, light and calm interior which is a complete surprise once as it most certainly doesn't look that big from the outside

On the right just after you enter, look out for the very first Samaritans telephone. The Samaritans are a telephone helpline service designed to provide emotional support to anyone in emotional distress, struggling to cope, or at risk of suicide and it was founded back in 1953 by an inspirational Anglican Priest called Chad Varah.
